Screw The Easy Button

I had one of those weekends where nothing seemed to go right, one of those weekends where you're actually looking forward to Monday. Lo and behold, Monday comes along and smacks me upside the head for my ignorance of hope. I start off w/ a morning fender bender and end the day with a piggy moment that leaves me spectacle free and half-blind.

Relativistic theory shows that forward time travel is possible, but I don't care about such things. If a physicist could prove reverse time travel and subsequently invent a machine that allowed even a couple of seconds of retrotemporal distortion, I would deify him/her. How awesome would it be to have our own personal Ctrl+Z button? Of course, we'd never get anything done b/c everyone would be reversing at everyone else's whim, but what's wrong with that, I say? Getting things done is so overrated.

What about you? Are you Easy (e.g., press a button and have an agent, voila) or Ctrl+Z?  And what would you do with your power?

  1. I see your Ctrl+Z and I raise you one Fast Forward button. I'm impatient. If I can get to the future faster, it would be easier to disregard the past.

  2. I'd prefer a pause and/or mute button over a Ctrl+Z or Fast Forward. That would make me very, very, very happy.

  3. Sorry that happened to you, Bane. I hope your glasses get fixed soon.

I like knowing that in my writing I have the option of reading it over and redoing it...not always an option in every day life...but hey...we can also learn from our mistakes.

  4. I think a fly on the wall button would be the most useful. See what others have going on and realize my situation could be a lot worse. Sorry for your crappy Monday! :O)

  5. Ctrl+Z would be wonderful. If only...if only...

I hope today is a better day for you, Bane. :)

  6. Ctrl+Z...hmmm maybe in some instances. I'm one of those annoying people who thinks that life's experiences is what shapes us. There are, though, moments I'd love to back up and do over...if only there would be no ripple effect.

  7. I continue to be frustrated that I cannot fast forward into the future. My DVR taunts me with the implied ability to do this, only to laugh when I forget that Michio Kaku's time machine only goes a picosecond in the future (or was he just slowing time down? I forget).

And who are you calling Easy? :)

  8. I'd prefer a time amplifier button. Ctrl-T anyone?
Something to increase the amount of time in a day.
Sorry you had such a crappy weekend and Monday. Hopefully the rest of the week will be better.

  9. I don't think I'd pass up an easy button if someone offered it to me. Of course, I'd only use it on the big stuff- world peace and so on.

    Right.

  10. I want a Ctrl-C button so I can make a copy of me to be my workhorse. Actually, I can see that backfiring. Never mind. I'll take the easy button.

  11. BTW, I love any posts containing the words "retrotemporal distortion" for future reference.

  12. If it was really that easy, there would be more of us self publishing.

Maybe not an easy button, but a fast-forward (Ctrl-FF)button to get to through to the inevitable Agent at the end of all the rejections list.

Oh, wait, I don't like F's on my papers! See, it's really not easy at all.

AFter scrolling through the comments, I see Rick and Susan already thought of that. I feel better already just knowing those two will work out an easy solution for me!

Hope your day got better at home Bane.

  13. I want Ctrl-F, a find feature. You don't know how many times I wanted to find something in a book and my hands did a quick little pinky-pointer jab to look for it.

    So...I guess I want a Kindle.

  14. Sorry about your day!

I agree with Rick. I'd really like a fast forward button. Honestly would come in handy during those ultra boring conversations or too long lines, etc. I'm impatient at times.

  15. Ouch. :( Hope you're ok and the universe rights things with you shortly.

I kinda like Rick's fast forward button. But ctrl +z has such appeal, too. Hm... I think I just want a Universal Remote for the Universe. Except not like that Adam Sandler movie.

  16. Sorry things were going so badly. I hope it's all on track again now. :)

Hmm...what would I do? I'd use it whenever I put my foot in my mouth. I don't do that very often, but I do it enough times to make that useful. ;) We could all use it when we query too early and realize it ex post facto.
